چکیده

In common GP approaches, the space of genotypes (search space) is identical to the space of phenotypes (solution space). Facts and theories from molecular biology suggest the introduction of non-identical genospaces and phenospaces, and a generic genotype-phenotype mapping (GPM) which maps unconstrained genotypes into syntactically correct phenotypes. Neutral variants come into eeect due to GPM. They enhance genetic diversity and allow for escaping local optima in phenospace via high-dimensional saddle surfaces in genospace. We propose a concrete GPM which maps linear binary genotypes into linear phenotypes of an arbitrary LALR(1) programming language. Empirical results are presented which show that the GPM improves the performance of GP under mutation and reproduction. 1 Introduction Common GP approaches (e.g. 1]) do not distinguish between a genotype, i.e. a point in search space, and its phenotype, i.e. a point in solution space, that is search space and solution space are identical.

Genotype-Phenotype-Mapping and Neutral Variation - A Case Study in Genetic Programming

We propose the application of a genotype-phenotype mapping to the solution of constrained optimization problems. The method consists of strictly separating the search space of genotypes from the solution space of phenotypes. A mapping from genotypes into phenotypes provides for the appropriate expression of information represented by the genotypes. The mapping is constructed as to guarantee fea...

Automatic Programming with Grammatical Evolution

The aim of this work is to develop an Automatic Programming system drawing inspiration from biological genetic systems. Grammatical Evolution (GE), a system which can generate code in any language from variable length binary strings is the result of this investigation. Using a language definition in the form of a Backus Naur Form grammar permits the generation of programs in any language, of ar...

Frequency domain analysis of transient flow in pipelines; application of the genetic programming to reduce the linearization errors

The transient flow analyzing by the frequency domain method (FDM) is computationally much faster than the method of characteristic (MOC) in the time domain. FDM needs no discretization in time and space, but requires the linearization of governing equations and boundary conditions. Hence, the FDM is only valid for small perturbations in which the system’s hydraulics is almost linear. In this st...

A Fine-Grained View of GP Locality with Binary Decision Diagrams as Ant Phenotypes

The property that neighbouring genotypes tend to map to neighbouring phenotypes, i.e. locality, is an important criterion in the study of problem difficulty. Locality is problematic in tree-based genetic programming (GP), since typically there is no explicit phenotype. Here, we define multiple phenotypes for the artificial ant problem, and use them to describe a novel fine-grained view of GP lo...
